Celebrating Earth Day Everyday: Navigating Sustainability
OUR PRACTICE
SNAKEHIVE X EARTH DAY
The Leather Industry
At Snakehive, we take pride in our packaging's ergonomic design, which streamlines user experience but also curtails excessive carboard consumption. Whilst we’ve already made progress, with the majority of our products now recyclable - we are steadfastly advancing towards making all our packaging fully recyclable. In addition to this, we are actively pioneering innovative approaches to slash packaging waste even further.
industry challenges
the intricacy of leather
Leather's natural composition and the various treatments it undergoes during the tanning process make decomposition and separating its fibres difficult. Its thickness and density present challenges for mechanical recycling procedures, and chemical solutions are still in their infancy.
Sustainable solutions are becoming more and more popular in spite of these challenges. While cutting-edge chemical procedures and enzymatic treatments seem promising, it might take some time before they can be implemented widely and profitably. Similar to the recycling of polyester fabric, improvements in leather recycling could lessen the environmental effect of fashion by keeping trash out of landfills and lowering the demand for virgin materials.
our commitment
We are closely monitoring the garment industry's developments, especially regarding the recycling of polyester fabric into pellets for reintroduction into the manufacturing cycle.

environmentally consicous choices
Choosing premium leather products over cheap faux leather ones not only offers durability but also contributes to environmental consciousness. While the initial investment may be higher, the longevity of leather goods significantly reduces the need for frequent replacements. This means fewer resources are expended in manufacturing new products and less waste ends up in landfills. In contrast, opting for a cheap faux leather case might seem economical at first, but its inferior quality often leads to peeling and deterioration within a short span, necessitating replacement every few months.
This cycle of purchasing and discarding contributes to environmental degradation through increased production, consumption, and disposal of synthetic materials. Thus, by opting for premium leather, you not only enjoy long-lasting quality but also play a part in reducing environmental strain.
